Christopher Seymore is a student at Botwood Collegiate and a member of the choir – the only member from central Newfoundland. He was chosen to become a member of the choir after sending a video to the director, Jakub Martinec. He said he was shocked when he found out that he would be going to South Korea to perform at the Olympics.

“Going to the Olympics is a once in a lifetime chance,” said Christopher. “It’s a once in a lifetime chance for an athlete, let alone a performer going to sing. I was completely awestruck. I was lost for words.”

Karen Seymore, Christopher’s mother, says friends and family have been excited and supportive of her son, and are willing to help ease the financial burden the trip will cause. She says Christopher is very involved in his church and the congregation plans to help raise funds.

Jakub Martinec, the director of the Newfoundland and Labrador Atlantic BoyChoir, says the choir is looking for funding from their board of directors. He says tickets are very expensive, and he doesn’t want to exclude anyone from the trip due to their financial situation.

“If one boy was unable to go because of the money, I would rather not go,” said Martinec. “We have a wonderful board of directors working with the choir, I feel really positive that they will make it happen.”

Seymore added that while he is thrilled to travel and see the sights, he is also nervous about the performance.

“It’s scary knowing that there are millions of people watching you,” said Christopher.
